WYOMING June 20th
Left early from Cheyenne headed west on the Lincoln Highway and just outside of Cheyenne we came upon this field of wind turbines. This part of the country is perfectly suited for use of wind turbines. FLAT and the wind never stops blowing! There were Antelope grazing right along side the beef cattle that are numerous here.
Although it was a long ride across the state of Wyoming, it was enjoyable as the terrain is constantly changing. The starkness of the landscape can be quite beautiful............I couldn't live here though! The weather cooperated and temperatures were mild today.
The Rocky Mountain foothills actually had snow on the tops of them.

NEBRASKA June 19th
This popped up on Roadside America so being in Grand Island we took a side trip over to the Stuhr Museum to have a look. Glad we did as this bronze statue was impressive. We spent some time in the visitors parking lot talking with one of the instructors for the summer arts programs offered to area youth. He was on his way in to teach about six students how to etch on glass. He also teaches fishing to a class of young people. He was quite talkative and told us a local story about the early settlers here in Nebraska. They had what they referred to as Egg and Daughter Day. One day a week fathers would go to town to sell their eggs and they would take their daughters along in hopes to find a suitable husband for them.
From the Stuhr Museum we drove along Route 30 Lincoln Highway (an excellent alternative to I-80) and detoured into Gothenburg, Nebraska where we visit the local Historical Museum and an on site authentic Pony Express Station. There was an exhibit in the Museum themed antique rural schools. There were books in the exhibit that Dave and I both remembered using. Dave told the hostess she had made a mistakes as there were books in the exhibit that weren't that old. LOL
Spent the night in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

SKIING IN IOWA
Decided to get off I-80 and do a little sight seeing along the Lincoln Highway. Very scenic with very little traffic. Huge fields of corn along with other crops we couldn't identify. Iowa is flat so you can imagine our surprise when we came upon this ski area with lifts. Everything is about agriculture. We have seen many grain elevators.
Ate lunch here under a tree, about the only tree around! Cross the Missouri River into Nebraska where we stayed last night in Grand Island.

"Treking" in Iowa
Monday June 18th - TREKING ACROSS THE NORTHERN STATES
Awoke in Toledo, Ohi-yo (next to the airport); checked for bug bites, showered, dressed and went for breakfast in the motel lobby.
We were on the road by 8:30 with all the trucks that roll east/west along I-90/80. The temperature was already at 73 degrees. The land lays flat here in upper Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa and the roads are laid out in a grid. It's pretty mindless driving. Put the cruise on set your speed and go.
Took a side road off the Interstate down to Riverside, Iowa to have a look at the Future Birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk mentioned in Roadside America. There is a Star Trek Museum there and a monument has been erected behind a beauty salon on Main Street............the whole adventure felt like something right out of Twilight Zone. I expected to see alien zombies parading down the street when we emerged back on to Main Street from the alley that leads to the monument. LOL
Staying in Iowa City tonight. Meatloaf and Turkey for supper then an early night.
